About me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am  Jack, a senior at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. I have two brothers who keep me on my toes and an awesome dog named Scout who thinks she runs the place. When I am not out exploring nature, you can find me wrestling or geeking out with my school’s Science Olympiad team.

My Nature Adventures

I’ve been lucky enough to visit over 25 national parks across the U.S. on epic road trips with my family. My favorites include Glacier National Park, Yosemite, and the Everglades. Each park offers unique adventures and breathtaking beauty, constantly reminding me why I love the great outdoors.

My Early Start

My fascination with nature started early. In 6th grade, I interviewed an aquatic director at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago for a research project on whales. His claim to fame? He was an orca trainer of SeaWorld in San Diego and was attacked by an orca during a show. This experience deepened my love for marine life and sparked a lasting curiosity about the underwater world. This past year, I wrote my Junior Theme on the underpublicized effects of climate change. Throughout the years, my interest has only increased.

Helping Animals

I volunteer at two animal shelters locally: Wright-Way Rescue and Orphans of the Storm. I enjoy spending time with these animals in need and helping them find their forever homes. If you're interested in learning more or adopting a pet, please check them out through the links! Trust me, it's like Tinder for pets - swipe right on a furry friend!

Internships and Experiences

This summer, I am interning at the Brookfield Zoo and The Nature Conservancy. At the zoo, I am part of the King Conservation Science Scholars program, where I get to learn about nature conservation and educate visitors. Through The Nature Conservancy’s Youth Environmental Thinkers Program, I am helping to manage the indigenous prairies and lands, and learning and documenting the vital connection between people and nature. Yes, it's as cool as it sounds.

I’d strongly urge you to apply early to these programs, as I am truly enjoying both of these opportunities to give back!

Join Me on This Journey

I created this blog to share my passion for nature with kids and anyone who might not have easy access to the natural world. Please stop by often, and let's get started on this exciting journey into the wonders of nature!
